Responsibilities
The Police Department exists to safeguard the lives and safety of all persons within the Village, to protect property, and to insure that everyone receives equal protection under the law.
The department has the responsibility to preserve the public peace, to detect and prevent the commission of crime, to enforce the laws and ordinances of the Village, to apprehend and to arrest criminals and those who violate or are lawfully accused of violating such laws and ordinances, to preserve order at public places, and to maintain the safe and orderly flow of traffic on public streets and highways.

Duties
Specific duties of the Chief of Police include the following:
  • Actively maintains regular patrol activity of the Village.
  • Attends all Village Board and Police and Fire Committee meetings as directed.
  • Attends to all department disciplinary and personnel matters.
  • Develops, maintains, and enforces department operational policies and procedures in accordance with state guidelines as adopted by the Village Police and Fire Committee.
  • Maintains departmental readiness, including but not limited to, officer training, equipment procurement, and staffing requirements.
  • Maintains police records and evidence in accordance with state laws.
  • Maintains public peace and insures all state laws, Village ordinances, and directives are uniformly enforced without bias.
  • Manages Village of Winneconne Police Department, including all officers and support staff as assigned.
  • Prepares reports as necessary.
  • Prepares and presents the monthly activity reports to the Village Police and Fire Committee under the supervision of the Village Administrator.
  • Prepares annual department budget.
  • Responds to citizen complaints and elected officials queries in a comprehensive and timely manner.
  • Serves as department education liaison to community on public safety issues.
  • Serves as Village's Chief Law Enforcement Officer.
