Open Records Request Procedures

We strive to maintain transparency with the public, but certain cases prevent the release of records. Protecting juveniles, victims, and witnesses are paramount to ensuring the integrity of the criminal justice system.

We strive to maintain transparency with the public, but certain cases prevent the release of records. Protecting juveniles, victims, and witnesses are paramount to ensuring the integrity of the criminal justice system.
1. An Open Records Request form must be filled out and signed by you and include the following necessary information:
- Your name
- Date of Birth
- Address
- Phone number
- Signature
You may also fill out the request online here.
2. There is a $10 fee for paper copies of incident reports and crash reports.
3. There is an additional $20 fee for media (video or photo) requests.
4. Juvenile information will be redacted. A request will be denied if information cannot be redacted, or a case is still pending.
5. Victim information will be redacted per Marsy's Law to ensure the protection of victims. A request will be denied if information cannot be redacted, or the case is still pending. WI State Constitution: Article 1 Section 9 and §950.09, Wis. Stats
6. Witness information will be redacted to protect witnesses. A request will be denied if information cannot be redacted, or the case is still pending. Wisconsin State Statute §85.103
7. The Chief of Police will review the request and either approve or deny the request. If a request is denied, the Chief of Police will provide a reason.
